Let Me Zoom in Canon 100-400mm

I needed a zoom lens for my trip to New Mexico and the Canon 100-400mm L is perfect.

Canon 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L IS

Prior to getting this lens I bought and used the Canon 70-200 F4 L IS and fell in love with the L lens series. It is just incredible. There is so much to be said for the Canon line of optics in general, but wow. Even at F5.6 you see incredible light capture and clarity. In New Mexico I took a number of photos of Hummingbirds and I was excited to find how fast focusing this lens was at F5.6. If you look closely you can see the individual strands in the feather hairs of these Ruby Throated Hummingbirds.

Overall I was extremely pleased with the performance and range of this Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 IS L lens. I also happened upon this Elk drinking from a stream that I was fishing for trout in. It felt like I was in a National Geographic moment as I watched and listened to this majestic creature refresh itself. I wish I had bought this lens sooner. I had considered selling it after my New Mexico trip, but now I don't know if I ever will.

More Juice Polanfo Power Bank

I am a content provider and providing content drains my devices like crazy. Here's my solution.

Seven years ago I bought a similar external battery pack to charge my phone and my other devices. It has served me very well over the years and it was time to find a new one. I wanted to buy a battery pack that could fully charge my iPhone 6s more than once and I came across this gem. It can charge my phone 3 times and it has a digital read out of the percentage left. I've used it to power my GoPro's, iPads, iPhones, and Apple Watch. It is about the size of my iPhone 6s so it's not too bulky and it's not too much heavier. From time to time I carry it in my pocket while charging my phone or iPad. Overall it has worked well for me and for $20 it is a solid buy.

Listen Up Sennheiser HD 201

I Podcast on iTunes so I need a pair of headphones that will work long hours and work well.

Sennheiser HD 201 $23.29

Like anyone else I have tried many different styles of headphones. I still have about 4 different pairs other than these. I've used Yamaha, Sony, AKG, Beats, Audio Technica, and a few off brands. These headphones are excellent for the budget minded user. At $23 they're really hard to beat. The foam around the earpiece is comfortable and suitable for those long sessions and the 10 foot cord is awesome. The other brands of headphones lack a long cord, but not these guys. In fact I liked these so much I bought another pair for my co host on the podcast and talked another host into buying them as well. Sennheiser makes quality gear and these are no exception. You can see me wearing them here on the far left and this was my trial run. By the next weeks episode we had 3 pairs.

GoPro has a new Hero 5

This camera has accessories that fly. Literally.

GoPro HERO5 Black
GoPro Camera

I have a history with GoPro. It has been a love love relationship. GoPro fills the niche of a rock solid action camera that can fit anywhere. I have used GoPro's to video waterparks, paintball, podcasts, concerts, sermons, time lapse, the sunrise, Jiu Jitsu, and a host of other events.  GoPro's have proven durable, compact, waterproof, and flexible.

This GoPro Hero 5 has surpassed them all. My favorite feature is the image stabilization. When I move this little camera around it uses the stabilization to smooth out the movement. For those of you that mount the camera to something mobile like a bike or an ATV, will find this function very useful.

GoPro has taken this camera to the next level by making it the staple of the newly released gimbal and Karma Drone. Yes this thing can fly and fly well. The gimbal and drone are deserving of their own write up so I will be brief. The gimbal can be used in hand or brilliantly integrated into the drone. Any way you look at it GoPro has really out done itself.

If you are still looking for a reason to get one consider the price point because at $399 this little camera is a real hero.

Podcasting on iTunes

There are about a million different podcasts on iTunes, and my podcast is among them.

There are a host of tools that I use for The Ministry Podcast, but chief among them is my digital audio recorder. You shouldn't have a podcast without decent audio and the Zoom H4n gives delivers quality audio and pro features at a great price point. The condenser microphone that it has works great on its own and I use this feature to record audio when I'm in a hurry. My podcast set up includes multiple microphones going into a mixer and outputting into the two XLR jacks on the H4n. These jacks are equipped to accept both XLR or 1/4 inch instrument cables which is a great feature. I have used both and the audio quality is excellent from either input. You can hook up two microphones without a mixer directly to the H4n and I have done this on multiple occasions, but I would recommend using a mixer to give more headroom with the gain control. Overall the ZOOM H4n is a quality product and for $159 cannot be beat.

Drone on DJI Phantom 4

This drone is the future of videography. I now have a camera that will follow me hands free.

This drone is smarter than yours. It has on board object avoidance technology and a smart object tracking software that allows this quadcopter to follow you on the move. It is like having someone hold your camera for you and hover beside or above you at up to 45 miles per hour. This innovation in technology is what sold me on this incredible drone and the quality of the 4K video is incredible. On top of all of that this drone not only survived a direct collision with a tree branch, but it caught itself in midair and flight corrected. I'm not saying that this drone is invincible, but in my opinion it's invincible. DJI did this right and I expect them to only get better.

360 Ricoh Theta S

I love 360 degree virtual reality video. If you enjoy it too then this is your camera.

What this little device can do is a steal for the price. For the price of an average GoPro you can get 360 Degree video or a high resolution picture of the world around you. The pictures are fantastic and the videos are the best quality available for the current market.

There are multiple apps for this that enable you to control it hands free and they are a lot of fun. There is software included to export the video files into mp4 and make your videos come to life. Currently Facebook and YouTube both support 360 video and they can b viewed straight from your mobile phone.

I have had this camera for about two weeks now and I couldn't be more pleased. Check out the video below of my family at the beach.
